Hi there,

this month the topic is Distress at the Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge:

• cut out a tag from watercolor paper
• create a background using a brayer and Distress Paints (Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint)
• ink up the white spaces with Distress Ink (Salty Ocean, Mowed Lawn)
• add some water droplets for more texture
• stamp the little rounded rectangles from the Paper Artsy EKD02 stamp set with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Fern Green, Forget-me-not)
• stamp some trees from the same stamp set with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Orange Blossom)
• add Multi Medium Matte to the "buds" of the trees and sprinkle Prima Marketing Micro Beads (Pollen) on top
• stamp one of the cats from the Katzelkraft Les Chats Russes stamp set directly onto the tag with Versafine (Smokey Gray) and heat-emboss it with clear embossing powder
• stamp the cat again onto a piece of watercolor paper with the same ink and color it with ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens and a waterbrush
• add white gel pen and Glossy Accents to the nose and the eyes
• dye a piece of seam binding with Distress Inks (Salty Ocean, Mowed Lawn) to match the project
• ink up the edges of a sentiment sticker from the Ideaology Small Talk Set with Distress Ink (Mowed Lawn) before adding it to the tag

• cut out a square using the My Favorite Things Stitched Square STAX and cover the emboss resist with Distress Inks (Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac, Faded Jeans)
• stamp the cute little dino from Mama Elephant Just hatched and the Santa hat from Mama Elephant Arctic Penguins with Memento (Tuxedo Black) and color the images with Delta Markers and a white gel pen
• stamp the sentiment from Lawn Fawn Let it snow with Versamark on a speech bubble cut from vellum and heat-emboss it with Wendy Vecchi embossing powder (Watering Can) 
• mat the scene on a piece of purple glitter cardstock cut to size with the help of the My Favourite Things Stitched Rounded Rectangle STAX

today, I would like to show you this Mixed Media Canvas that I created for the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Sunday:

• cover a canvas with tissue paper using Dina Wakley Gel Medium and put gesso on top
• apply Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste through the ARTplorations Old Rose Prints stencil
• color the roses with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors and let the color trickle down the canvas
• cut out the sentiment from sturdy white cardstock and color the letters with Distress Paint (Hickory Smoke, Picked Raspberry) - cover all the letters with Wink of Stella Clear Glitter
• stamp some borders from the STAMPlorations Artsy Border Maker with Memento Luxe (Gray Flannel)

Watercolor Backgrounds with Distress Inks - Part 1: Wet Brush

Hi there,

today, I am starting a new mini-series for the Karten-Kunst Blog. I will show you how to create watercolor backgrounds with Distress Inks using four different techniques:

• cut out a tag from watercolor paper using the Paper Smooches Gift Tags 2 Dies and the Big Shot
• apply some Distress Ink (Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Broken China) to your craft sheet, pick the colors up with a wet brush and color the tag until you are satisfied with the result - you may of course dry in between layers to achieve that typical watercolor look
• apply Distress Ink (Broken China) through the Memory Box Texture Splatter Spray stencil and heat-emboss with Glitter embossing powder
• stamp the seahorse from Lawn Fawn Critters in the Sea with Memento Tuxedo Black and color the image with Delta Markers
• add details with a white gel pen
• cut out a wave shape using Lawn Fawn Puffy Cloud Borders from vellum
• stamp the sentiment from Karten-Kunst Inchie-Grüße 4 with Versamark and heat-emboss with Wendy Vecchi embossing powder (Cornflower Blue)
• add some burlap to the top of the tag using a stapler and add a DIY enamel dot on top of that

• stamp one of the puppies from Wee Stamps Naughty Puppies with Versafine Onyx Black on a watercolor panel and color the image with Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle Pencils and a waterbrush
• apply white embossing paste dyed with Distress Paint (Dusty Concord) through the Memory Box Garden Floral Confetti Stencil to the dark kraft cardbase
• stamp the sentiment from Karten-Kunst Kombi-Set Grüße with Versafine Imperial Purple on a strip of vellum and heat-emboss it with clear embossing powder
• add faux stitching around the image panel with a Distress Marker (Dusty Concord)
• ink up the edges of the panel with Distress Ink Dusty Concord and a Mini Ink Blending Tool
• add three sequins as final embellishments

connected through our love for card making, blogging and being from Germany we (Cornelia from Stempel Spass and I) decided to create a monthly project within predefined requirements. We are going to show you the result every 3rd Sunday of the month and this is our fourth transatlantic get-together!

• cover the butterflies with Masking Fluid
• stamp the JudiKins Papyrus with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Watering Can)
• apply Distress Inks (Tumbled Glass, Broken Chine, Peacock Feathers) to the Memory Box Drip Rings stencil, mist it with water and press it onto the watercolor cardbase - repeat the process until you are happy with the result
• ink up the edges of the card with Distress Ink (Broken China)
• apply Distress Ink (Peacock Feathers) throught the Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Dot Fade)
• stamp the sentiment from the same stamp set with Jenni Bowlin Chicken Feed Ink
• add some splatters of Radiant Rain Shimmer Mist (Pewter)

• cut out a hill shape, cover it with Versamark and heat-emboss it with the same sparkly embossing powder
• stamp the sentiment from Lili of the Valley Christmas Handwritten Phrases with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Watering Can) - since the embossed snowflakes resist the ink it looks as if the sentiment lies behind them
• mat the panel onto a piece of silver glitter paper

Hi there,

today, I would like to show you this Mixed Media card:

• apply gesso to a piece of watercolor paper
• mix a small amount of Gelato (Guava) with Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid and apply the mix through the Memory Box Drip Rings stencil - this will create a resist
• apply Gelato (Snow Cone) over this resist and fade the color out with a wet brush - let dry thoroughly
• cover the whole panel with Distress Paint (Brushed Pewter), spritz it with water in some places and start drying it with a heat gun, use a paper towel to absorb the wet paint and peel it off immediately thus creating an eroded metal finish
• stamp one of the Lavinia Stamps Zen Houses and Lavinia Stamps Zen Rose with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Watering Can) and color the images with Derwent Inktense Pencils and a waterbrush
• ink up the edges with Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Watering Can) and mat the panel on a dark grey cardbase
• add the sentiment from Tim Holtz Small Talk and dye the sticker with Distress Ink (Pumice Stone, Spun Sugar, Tumbled Glass)

• stamp the sentiment from the same stamp set on a strip of vellum with Versamark and heat-emboss with Wendy Vecchi Watering Can embossing powder
• use Neenah Desert Storm Kraft Cardstock as a cardbase and stamp images from Lawn Fawn Quinn's 123s and Lawn Fawn Birthday Tags using Avery Elle Kraft Pigment Ink and Hero Arts Shadow Ink (Butter Bar, Pale Tomato, Tide Pool) - color the numbers using Derwent Inktense Pencils and the Dove Blender Pen
• add three Pretty Pink Posh Sequins (6mm Sparkling Clear) as final embellishments

• use Dina Wakley Gel Medium to cover a canvas with Papermania Tissue Paper and apply a thin coat of gesso on top
• create a background using Distress Paints (Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry)
• cut out Miss Kate Cuttables Valentine Subway Art from Grungepaper and color the pieces with Distress Paint (Picked Raspberry) and Inka Gold (Magenta, Turquoise, Graphite)
• cover the hearts with Versamark and heat-emboss with Wendy Vecchi Watering Can embossing powder - stamp Flamingo-Art J-652 with Distress Paint (Picket Fence) on top to create the enamelware look
• apply Wendy Vecchi White Embossing Paste through Heidi Swapp Confetti, TCW Stitch Doodle Dot Mini and Dylusions Dotted Flowers
• stamp over the dots with Hero Arts Thank you Definition and Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink (Watering Can)
• apply Distress Ink (Pumice Stone, Weathered Wood) around the edges and on top of the embossing paste and Distress Ink (Stormy Sky) through the Layering Stencil (Clockwork)
• apply Versamarker at random spots around the edge, heat-emboss with Ranger Sticky embossing powder and add foil (Vintage)
• use the Distress Marker Spritzer with Distress Markers (Pumice Stone, Dusty Concord, Black Soot) as a finishing touch
